About Copper Classics
My name is William Kuhn, I grew up on a rural farm in Warmbaths, where I first discovered creativity building wire cars with my childhood friend. Those early lessons in imagination and resourcefulness stayed with me, even as life took me into a 38-year career in banking and financial services. It was only much later, during family holidays in Betty’s Bay, that I rediscovered my passion for making for these copper sculptures.
Now retired, I devote my time to building intricate copper models of vintage racing cars and early 20th-century airplanes. Working entirely without plans – relying only on images held in my mind – I shape each piece using copper wire, copper plate, and soldering. My art pays tribute to history, craftsmanship, and the joy of turning the simplest materials into something alive and meaningful. Read more
